"Oldboy" In Review

This guy ate an octopus for this movie.
For real.
I don't think their is any more effective method than eating a live animal to prove that you are a dedicated actor, and also apeshit crazy.
The story is about a man who is captured for unknown reasons and stored in a hotel room for 15 years. Needless to say he gets out, and when he does he's angry about everything from his 15 year isolation to his crummy Doc Brown haircut. He traverses the city with his new Sushi chef turned sidekick in search of the person that locked him up and the reasons why. He kicks a good amount of ass, primarily with a hammer.

The movie is a great success as both an action film and an experiment in psychological torture, and it has the heart to drop a good joke every once in a while.

Why I'm now scared of Koreans

Fantastic Sam Fail

This is a post about anger.

Thats a picture of Monique to your right.
She is one of many who work at various Fantastic Sam Salons across the nation.

She is a happily married, independent woman who wants to make a quick buck, pay off the mortgage, buy her children stuff at JC Penny.

I usually get my hair done by Ofelia at the Fantastic Sam's on 3rd Street.
She is pro.

Today, some bitch named Sophia cut my hair at the Fantastic Sams in Encino.

I know going to a new barber is risky, but I really needed a haircut.

I specified to her, "leave the sideburns, use a #4 razor, and leave a natural form on the neck."

She said "Noooo problemmm I giveee you goooood cut."

I watched the mirror as she cut my hair.

I prayed the whole time that her method was just temporary, she would somehow make it look better as a final result.

I tried to speak up: "Hey, can you use the #4 razor like I requested plz?"
Sophia: "Nooooo I use my fingersss wit a esizzorss esooo much bettooor."

She finally finished, and we both stared at it.

We both knew it was a fail.

But neither of us said anything.

"Lett meee puuut some gel on to commmplete ittt" she said.

We both pretended to like the haircut.

She praised it, I thanked her for it.

But inside me a fire was beginning to rage.

I left.
Got a croissant.
Forgot about it.

Until now.

Eternal Questions:
Why the &5^$ is she a barber?
Has anyone ever straight out told their barber after a haircut that they did a crappy job?
Does anybody ever get good haircuts?

The Foreign Exchange

After a recommendation from a friend a while back, I finally picked up a copy of The Foreign Exchanges' recent album, Leave It All Behind.

It's unique blend of R&B, Soul, and Electronica is quite a breath of fresh air.
The album's seducing lyrics,
smooth vocals hooks, and intricate pads are overwhelming enough to make any listener want to get down and make some love.

As their website states, The Foreign Exchange "Consists of singer/songwriter Phonte and producer Nicolay, The Foreign Exchange came together via the online hip-hop community Okayplayer.com in 2002. After trading files through Instant Messenger for over a year, Nicolay (living in his native Holland at the time) and Phonte (a Raleigh, NC resident)
completed their debut album before they ever met each other in person."

I see Moby wherever I go

Moby's latest album, Wait For Me, is his most ambiguous work yet. Distancing himself from his signature use of gospel vocals and funk percussion, he instead downs the tempo, embraces the ambience of strings, pads, guitar, ect. and soaks it all in reverb.

That said, Moby's look has also been ambiguous. I would even go to say that his white/skinny/bald look is catching on.
